Who We Are and What We Believe

Rooted in Faith, Growing in Community

Welcome!

We’re a rural family church that believes worship should feel like coming home. Every week, we gather to celebrate God’s love, study the Bible in practical ways, and serve our neighbors with open hearts. You’ll find people of all ages worshipping side-by-side, singing, praying, and laughing together.

Beyond Sunday worship services, we have social gatherings, fundraisers, study groups, and share in local outreach projects that make it easy to connect and grow. Whether you’ve followed Jesus for years or you’re simply curious about faith, we’re here to walk alongside you—answering questions, sharing hope, and cheering you on every step of the journey.

The congregation in Thompson’s Lake was founded in 1826, while the congregation in Knox was founded in 1841. The two congregations began the process of merging in 2019.

Our congregation belongs to the Reformed Church in America (RCA), the oldest continuing mainline denomination in North America, founded in 1628 on what is today the island of Manhattan, NY.

The RCA is a confessional, historic denomination, which means that we affirm specific statements of belief within ecumenical creeds and historic confessions. These statements are biblically based and were written to respond to issues by explaining in detail what the church believes about those topics. The historic creeds include: The Apostles’ Creed, The Nicene Creed, and The Athanasian Creed. Reformed Confessions include: the Heidelberg Catechism, Belgic Confession, Canons of Dort, and Belhar Confession.

What Do We Believe?

You may not have heard the word "Reformed" before — and that's okay. It's simply a way of describing a stream of Christian faith that goes back to the Bible itself, and was recovered and articulated clearly during the Protestant Reformation in the 1500s.

At the heart of what we believe is this: God is good, humans are broken, and Jesus changes everything.

We believe the Bible is God's true and trustworthy word for humanity — our guide for faith, life, and how we understand the world. We don't place our traditions or opinions above it.

We believe that no one earns their way to God. Salvation is entirely God's gift, given freely through Jesus Christ, received through faith — not religious performance or good behavior.

We believe God is not distant or passive. God is sovereign — actively involved in the world and in the lives of people God loves. That's not a scary idea; it's actually a deeply comforting one.

And we believe that following Jesus isn't just about what happens on Sunday. It shapes how you work, how you treat people, how you raise a family, and how you engage the world around you.

If any of this raises questions — great!
